This paper intends to explore the promises and pitfalls of the Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) AI and potentially future technologies by adopting a speculative methodology. Speculative future narratives with a specific focus on educational contexts are provided in an attempt to identify emerging themes and discuss their implications for education in the 21st century. Affordances of (using) AI in Education (AIEd) and possible adverse effects are identified and discussed which emerge from the narratives. It is argued that now is the best of times to define human vs AI contribution to education because AI can accomplish more and more educational activities that used to be the prerogative of human educators. Therefore, it is imperative to rethink the respective roles of technology and human educators in education with a future-oriented mindset.Bozkurt, ArasXiao, JunhongLambert, SarahPazurek, AngelicaCrompton, HelenKoseoglu, SuzanFarrow, RobertBond, MelissaNerantzi, ChrissiHoneychurch, SarahBali, MahaDron, JonMir, KamranStewart, BonnieCostello, EamonMason, JonStracke, Christian M.Romero-Hall, EnildaKoutropoulos, ApostolosToquero, Cathy MaeSingh, LenandlarTlili, AhmedLee, KyungmeeNichols, MarkOssiannilsson, EbbaBrown, MarkIrvine, ValerieRaffaghelli, Juliana ElisaSantos-Hermosa, GemaFarrell, OrnaAdam, TaskeenThong, Ying LiSani-Bozkurt, SunagulSharma, Ramesh C.Hrastinski, StefanJandrić, Petar2023-03-111347-9008enCopyright (c) 2023 Asian Journal of Distance EducationSpeculative Futures on ChatGPT and Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI): A Collective Reflection from the Educational LandscapeOpen educational practices (OEP) in the design of digital competence assessmenthttps://docs.opendeved.net/lib/2TJPP7NJ2021-03-24T14:38:51Z2021-03-24T14:38:51ZThis article presents the implementation of an assessment model for generic competences in K-12 enabled by open educational practices. It showcases a digital competence assessment model that outlines the design of competence assessment scenarios constructed by means of a collaborative process involving teachers from six European countries, learning designers, and researchers. Our study draws attention to the concept of open educational practices as a broad descriptor of four areas of teacher practice regarding design, content, teaching, and assessment. The process unfolds through three phases, where teachers’ engagement with collaborative processes and network-based tools facilitate the construction of active shared learning. It analyzes the joint creation of open practices, and the production of open educational resources. The scalability, flexibility, and adaptability of competence assessment scenarios underline their transferability to similar contexts. The experience may benefit educational institutions and communities of teachers interested in innovating and opening up education.Maina, Marcelo FabiánSantos-Hermosa, GemaMancini, FedericaOrtiz, Lourdes GuàrdiaApril 2, 2020https://doi.org/10.1080/01587919.2020.17574070158-7919Open educational practices (OEP) in the design of digital competence assessmentRepositories of Open Educational Resources: An Assessment of Reuse and Educational Aspectshttps://docs.opendeved.net/lib/E75YWSPF2020-06-15T20:50:05Z2021-02-14T18:56:25ZSantos-Hermosa, GemaFerran-Ferrer, NúriaAbadal, Ernest2017/08/15https://doi.org/10.19173/irrodl.v18i5.30631492-3831enCopyright (c) 2017 Gema Santos-Hermosa, Núria Ferran-Ferrer, Ernest AbadalRepositories of Open Educational Resources: An Assessment of Reuse and Educational Aspects
