Assessing Quality Assurance Inputs for the Teaching of Business Teacher Education in Selected Colleges of Education in South-South, Nigeria
Abstract
This study was designed to assess quality assurance inputs for the teaching Business Teacher Education in selected Colleges of Education in South-South, Nigeria. Three research questions were raised to guide the study. The population comprised 91 Business Educators from four selected Colleges of Education in South-South, Nigeria. No sample was used since the population was manageable. A checklist containing 22 inputs recommended as minimum standards for NCCE Business Teacher Education was used to collect information on the availability and adequacy while a 22-item questionnaire was used to gather data on the suitability of available inputs. The obtained data was analysed using mean and standard deviation for research questions. The analysed data revealed that 17 out of 22 inputs were (3 highly and 14 averagely) available while five inputs were low in availability, 18 out of 22 inputs were (4 highly and 14 averagely) adequate while 4 inputs were low in adequacy, 14 out of 22 inputs were (3 highly and 11 averagely) suitable whereas 8 inputs were low in sustainability. However, the quality of the available inputs were judged to be of low quality relative to the NCCE minimum standards. It was therefore recommended that: The NCCE should embark on regular monitoring to ensure that the administrators of Business Teacher Education of these colleges adhere strictly to the recommended minimum standards. The government should provide the much needed personnel, facilities and equipment in adequate quality and quantity suitable for the teaching/ learning of Business Teacher Education programme among others.
